Overview[]
The Arctic is a region far to the north of the rest of the Stormworks map. It is a cold, wintry climate, and spending too long here without protection against the cold can be detrimental to the player. The Arctic contains few landmarks and inhabited structures, with few roads and very few railways. The islands are mostly rocky and covered in snow, and the seas are full of icebergs.
Only three of the islands have roads on them, meaning land transport is not very useful. The largest island has two rail terminals, and the three smallest islands also have rail connections. The railways all link to a very long bridge that connects to the other landmasses in the south.
The Ambient Temperature is -15°c which is low enough to start damaging the player, this can be avoided by wearing an Arctic outfit or being near a Heat Source (I.E: Heaters, Fire, Fireboxes, Furnaces, and Nuclear Reactors)
Layout[]
In total, there are ten islands proper in the Arctic. All other surfaces are icebergs, floating on the ocean's surface.
- The largest island is in the center of the Arctic. It has roads, and is the only major island with rail access.
- The second largest island is in the south-west of the Arctic. It is barren, apart from Mount Paradize
- Taijin Island is situated to the north-west of the largest island, and is occupied entirely by an airstrip.
- There are two smaller islands between Taijin Island and the largest island, with nothing on them apart from two roads.
- Magnus Island is to the south of the Arctic, being on the route of the rail bridge that connects the Arctic with the rest of the map.
- xFury Island is to the east of the Arctic, with a rail bridge linking it to the rest of the railways.
- Daylight Island and BVG Island are to the north of the Arctic, with rail bridges linking them to the rest of the railways.
Landmarks and Structures[]
The Arctic has few landmarks and structures, most being destinations rather than waypoints. The only landmark is Mount Paradize, being visible from quite far away, but due to the scale of the arctic and size of the icebergs, it is often not visible.
Structures[]
- ArcTech Survey Base is a scientific outpost on an iceberg in the north of the Arctic, and resembles the Halley VI Reseach Station in the Antarctic.
- Arcturus is a small hamlet, seemingly the only civilian village in the Arctic. It is home to a lighthouse.
- BVG Logistics Depot is a harbor with rail and sea access in the north of the Arctic. Shipping containers can be found here, and it is home to a diesel gantry. Vehicles can't be made here.
- Daylight Oil Refinery is an industrial installation in the north of the Arctic with rail and sea access. It is home to an oil gantry, a diesel gantry, and a jet fuel gantry. Vehicles can't be made here.
- Krail Oilworks is an insdustrial installation on the main island with road and sea access. It is home to an oil data vendor and an oil gantry. Vehicles can't be made here.
- Magnus Shipbreaking Ltd. is an industrial installation in the south of the Arctic. It has sea and rail access. Vehicles can't be made here.
- Taijin Airstrip is an airport with road access to the north-west of the main island. It costs $200000 to unlock, and allows the construction of land and air vehicles. It is home to a jet fuel gantry.
- Terminal Endo is a rail yard in the south of the main island that costs $100000 to unlock. Land vehicles and trains can be built here.
- Terminal Trinite is a rail yard in the north of the main island that costs $100000 to unlock. Land vehicles and trains can be built here.
- SGK Research Outpost is a hospital on the main island, the only one in the Arctic. It is home to a diesel gantry. Vehicles can't be made here.
- xFury Drilling Co. and Uranium Processing is an industrial installation in the east of the Arctic with rail access. Vehicles can't be made here.
